Figuring Out Career Paths
Should you quit your job and check out this new opportunity? How do you arrive at this decision? Sometimes, we have to ask those difficult questions in order to be a position we really want. On this episode of the podcast, Joyce and Aaron answer another question from the community on choosing between a high-paying job and a job our listener truly loves.
Decisions may vary in particular seasons of life. Yuppies might be more concerned with being financially stable. Some people who are stable and are happy with their careers could change paths if they felt like there’s still a lot of room for growth for them. And this is the time to ask harder questions. What is your mission and vision? What is your overarching goal for your life and purpose? You're happy with where you are right now but where do you go next?
There are many from the older generation calling the younger ones indecisive because they would jump from one place to another. They would say that to get a full experience of the job, you need to stay at least a year. But if you have a toxic work environment and it negatively affects your physical and mental health, then quitting immediately is necessary.
Deciding Between Job Offers and Switching Careers
Goal Alignment to Choosing Better Possibilities
The first thing I do is writing goals – from short-term, mid-term and long-term goals. Though these are not constant, we are forced to face and decide which one will give us better opportunity that are aligned with all our goals. (AA)
Every good opportunity is not always a good opportunity. And the reason for that is if you don't know what your long-term goal is, what your overarching purpose for your career or your life is, there will always be better opportunities that will be presented to you. But that doesn't always mean that you should grab them because it might just take you all over the place instead of bringing you onwards the right direction. (JP)
At the end of the day it will be a difficult decision to either quit or stay in the job that you're in right now so you have to take it seriously and spend time before you make a decision. Check first your long-term goals. Weigh the pros and cons and really look at the situation. Mentors could help you decide on matters like this. Write down your mission, vision, goals and purpose in work and in life. Pray about it, ask your parents, ask God about it and eventually you’ll make a decision that’s gonna be good for you. (JP)
